The academic emphasis at Claremont McKenna is on political science and economics, but students can take classes offered by any other member of the Claremont Consortium, including nearby Harvey Mudd and Pomona Colleges. CMC’s rigorous education requirements include not only a sampling of economics, humanities, and government courses but also three physical education classes.
The upshot of that approach: The school launches students into good jobs. Recent graduates report salaries that are a solid 13% higher than the average for peers from similar universities. Famous alums include Montana Governor Steve Bullock and Michael Jeffries, CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch.
In their downtime, CMC students can relax at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, a college club where students and faculty gather to dine and listen to guest speakers ranging from Condoleeza Rice and Karl Rove to Jonathan Franzen and Ta-Nehisi Coates.
