The Federal Election Commission released the Trump 2016 campaign filing on Thursday, and Trump’s biggest expenditure wasn’t payroll, ads, or travel—it was that red “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” hat and other swag, which racked up $793,672 in expenses.
On the otherwise very, very dry filing, the largest lines item were “T-SHIRTS/HATS” for $423,860.12, “HATS” FOR $273,668.81, and “T-SHIRTS/HATS/DECALS” for $51,626.34. Though people have noted that some unofficial hats are made in China, the official Trump hats are in fact made domestically.
Other interesting numbers on the filing were the $3.7 million he’s taken in contributions from donors, which dwarfs the $100,000 donated by “The Candidate” himself in Q3 (so much for his claims of “self-financing”). Politico also noted the campaign is paying a fat $144,000 rent for its offices … whose landlord is Trump.
