After just 15 months of marriage, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are calling it quits. TMZ reported Wednesday that Heard is the one who pulled the plug on the marriage, filing a divorce petition on May 23 — only three days after the death of Johnny Depp’s mother, who died on May 20, according to CBS News.
Multiple reports say Depp and Heard were officially separated on May 22, and Heard cited irreconcilable differences in the divorce petition. Heard has also requested spousal support, but Depp is taking steps to protect his multimillion-dollar net worth. According to TMZ, Depp asked the judge to reject Heard’s spousal support claim.
Johnny Depp Net Worth: $400 Million
Johnny Depp’s net worth is $400 million. According to Forbes, the 52-year-old actor’s 2015 earnings came out to $30 million, which is likely well-deserved — BoxOfficeMojo cites Johnny Depp movies have so far brought in $8.5 billion in total revenue worldwide. The bulk of his net worth — a rumored $300 million, according to CelebrityNetWorth.com — comes from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise that he has starred in since 2003 as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Since marrying Amber Heard in February 2015, Johnny Depp has starred in a number of films, including “Black Mass,” “Yoga Hosers,” “Alice Through the Looking Glass“ and the TV movie “Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal.”
With his earnings, the actor has been able to afford a number of luxurious items — and even sell some for huge profits. For example, he purchased a 45-acre island in the Bahamas for $3.6 million in 2004, reports Forbes. In 2015, “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling reportedly bought Depp’s 156-foot luxury yacht for around $30 million. And recently, Depp put his Plan de la Tour, France estate on the market for $26 million. According to the Los Angeles Times, Depp spent more than $10 million on improvements to the property.

Amber Heard Net Worth: $9 Million
Amber Heard’s net worth is an estimated $9 million. Her acting career spans back more than a decade, and some of her most recent projects include “Magic Mike XXL,” “The Danish Girl” and “The Adderall Diaries.” Johnny Depp’s wife also recently landed a role as Mera, the wife of Aquaman, in the 2017 and 2018 films “The Justice League Part One” and “Aquaman.”
Who Gets What in the Johnny Depp, Amber Heard Split?
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met while filming “The Rum Diaries” in 2009 and publicly revealed their romance in 2012. In April 2016, the couple appeared together in a video where they awkwardly apologized for smuggling their two Yorkshire terriers into Australia last year instead of properly declaring their pets.
Unlike most celebrity divorces, the division of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s assets could get quite complicated because the couple reportedly does not have a prenuptial agreement. Supposedly, Depp steered clear of the legal doc because he wanted to show his love for Heard was real, reports OK magazine.
While romantic, this decision could prove very costly for Depp, since the divorce was filed in Los Angeles and California is a community property state. Under these terms, all property, earnings and debt the couple acquires during the marriage is considered joint. So, it’s possible Heard could receive a settlement worth millions.
The couple doesn’t have any children. But as for the dogs, it’s unclear who will gain full custody.
