Fewer and fewer Americans have been taking vacation from their jobs. According to recent studies, 55% of all American workers didn’t use all of their allotted vacation days. In many cases, these vacation days are for forfeited at year’s end.

But in a country that offers its workers the fewest vacation days out of any other nation, taking time away from work can actually boost productivity and creativity upon your return to the office, claims Emma Seppala, author of The Happiness Track. Taking time to “recharge your batteries,” Seppala says, can ultimately lead to being more successful in the workplace.
