Fitchburg State University

Originally a state teachers' college, Fitchburg State University today offers professional programs with an emphasis on liberal arts and sciences. What does that mean for students? Well, it translates into more than 40 undergrad programs, an average class size of 21, and tons of opportunities outside the classroom. It equals courses in subjects like documentary production, reading historical landscapes, linear algebra, and microbiology. And it means financial aid: Almost 90% of undergrads get some sort of assistance. When not studying, Fitchburg State students can support the home teams, the NCAA Division III Falcons, work out at the recreation center, see a guest speaker on campus, pledge one of two fraternities or three sororities, or take part in volunteer activities. Fitchburg itself is a town of 40,000 in north-central Massachusetts, surrounded by countryside, with parks and forest preserves a short drive away. Boston can be reached via a 90-minute train ride. Ski, eat, and explore to your heart's content.
