Franklin & Marshall College

Lancaster, PAwww.fandm.edu
Admission has become increasingly competitive at Franklin & Marshall, a college known for the great relationships that its students have with their professors. As one of the oldest liberal arts schools in the country -- founded in Pennsylvania in 1787, the same year the Constitution was signed -- F&M has a storied intellectual history, one that its students still strive to live up to. People flock to the college's social sciences and business programs. Academics are taken seriously, in large part because the faculty makes a real effort to engage with students and because students tend to have a sense of where they want to go in the world once they graduate. It's working: Franklin & Marshall's graduation rate is higher than the national median, and so is the average salary of a student after attending. Greek life is popular, as are dramatic and artistic events on campus, especially those at the student-run late-night restaurant and club Ben's Underground. Want to venture off the grounds? From the college town of Lancaster, you can get to Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York City by train.
