Illinois Institute of Technology

Chicago, ILweb.iit.edu/
As you might expect, IIT is a leader in tech, but students are also encouraged to dabble in a variety of courses as they pursue their degrees. Majors include aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence, astrophysics, digital humanities, social and economic development policy, medicinal chemistry, and more. The main campus is located in the Bronzeville section of Chicago and features several architecturally notable buildings, including the steel and glass S.R. Crown Hall, a National Historic Landmark designed by the former dean of IIT's architecture school, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Famed architect and IIT alum Helmut Jahn designed State Street Village, one of the school's more popular dorms. Special offerings at the school include a leadership academy with a seminar series and student retreats, as well as the IPRO Program, which brings students together across disciplines to solve pressing global issues. Students put their technology chops to zanier purposes, as well: Each fall, teams of them design and build catapults and compete to see who can launch a pumpkin the farthest.
