McDaniel College

Westminster, MDwww.mcdaniel.edu
McDaniel College is a private four-year liberal arts school just over 30 miles from Baltimore and roughly 60 miles from Washington, D.C. Founded after the Civil War as the first co-ed college south of the Mason-Dixon Line, McDaniel today has about 1,600 undergraduates and a similar number of graduate students. The McDaniel Plan, a phrase used to describe the school's brand of academics, emphasizes a combination of broad liberal arts and deep subject specialization. Undergrads can choose from more than 70 subject areas, among which the most popular programs are psychology, business administration, kinesiology, biology, and sociology. McDaniel also has a sister campus, McDaniel-Europe, in Budapest, Hungary, that offers classes like Historical Trauma and Literary Memory, and From Garden to Table: Food, History, and Culture in Central Europe. Back in the U.S., about 90 student organizations dominate student life on campus in Westminster, with options including Greek organizations, two choirs, a jazz ensemble, a literary magazine, and a newspaper.
