National Louis University

Chicago, ILwww.nl.edu
National Louis University started back in 1886 as a school aimed at training women to teach kindergarten, but it has expanded significantly since then. NLU has seven locations, four colleges and 19 undergrad programs. Its student body is largely female and part-time. Recent grads report early-career salaries of about $47,300, which is higher than similar schools, according to MONEY's analysis. NLU recently acquired Kendall College, where culinary-minded students can learn culinary arts, baking and pastry, and hospitality management. NLU's Kendall College also offers recreational classes in wine and a cheese club. In addition to professors who are accommodating and convenient class hours, NLU students at the main campus in Chicago can enjoy all the Windy City has to offer, from Millennium Park to Navy Pier. NLU students receive free admission to the Art Institute, which has paintings by Edward Hopper, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Mary Cassatt, and Georgia O'Keeffe in its collection. Students also enjoy free or discounted tickets to the Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Need a break from the big city? NLU's other campuses are in the Illinois cities of Elgin, Lisle, and Wheeling. Head south and you'll find another location in Tampa, Florida.
