University of Houston

Houston, TXwww.uh.edu/
The University of Houston is one of the largest national research institutions in Texas -- and one of the most diverse. The campus serves about 45,000 undergraduate and graduate students, most of them commuters from the exciting city of Houston and its suburbs. UH offers more than 100 minors and majors, including biotechnology, Chinese studies, exercise science, and world cultures and literatures. The university spends $177 million on research, and it was listed as one of the top 100 global universities granted the most U.S. patents in 2018. UH is the home of the Houston Cougars, which compete in the NCAA Division I conference and have produced more than 60 Olympians. The school mascot is Shasta, a cougar whose real-life counterpart lives at the Houston Zoo. Frontier Fiesta, a three-day annual spring event, is a favored tradition on campus, bringing in live concerts, variety shows, carnival booths, and a cook-off competition (the categories are chicken, chili, fajitas, pinto beans, pork ribs, and beef brisket, if you want to start working on your recipes now).
