Amazon Prime

Don't have plans ahead of the long weekend? Amazon's making binge-watching a little more appealing.

The tech behemoth announced on Thursday that it's cutting the cost of its Prime subscription service by more than 25% for new subscribers to $73 this weekend only, starting Friday at 9:00 p.m. PT and concluding at 11:59 p.m. local time on Sunday.

What made Amazon feel so generous?

If you've heard anything about a show called Mozart in the Jungle recently, it's probably that it won two Golden Globes last weekend. That's probably a big deal to a company that's expanded its original digital content, an indication that the investment has paid off.

Amazon Prime normally costs $99, and comes with "perks" like free two-day shipping and music and video streaming. Not only is Amazon cutting the subscription cost, but it's also making episodes of the winning show free for the weekend, regardless of whether you're an existing subscriber.

Not sure if an Amazon subscription is worth the price? Here's a handy guide to walk you through the decision. While you're pondering, enjoy some free streaming. Isn't that music to your ears?
