The question is a little more complicated than you might imagine. That's because many stores—including Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Best Buy, J.C. Penney, Sears, Kohl's, and GameStop—open their doors and launch their "Black Friday" sales on Thanksgiving Day itself. In some cases, retailer Black Friday hours also vary due to local laws that restrict certain businesses from opening on holidays like Thanksgiving. Once they're open and their Black Friday deals are live on Thanksgiving, stores such as Walmart, J.C. Penney, and Toys R Us simply stay open overnight as Thursday officially turns into Black Friday.
