The crown jewel of this Milwaukee suburb is its historic downtown, complete with mom-and-pop boutiques, eateries (frozen custard, anyone?), and a thundering waterfall. A former mill town, the limestone dam stands strong as the focal point of Mill Pond Park, which also hosts outdoor concerts throughout the summer.
Kohl's is also headquartered in Menomonee Falls, and the retail chain has invested more than $100 million to improve its campus in the past year, opening a team-building Innovation Center and new wellness facility. Other large employers include Wells Fargo and a Harley-Davidson production plant. Homes are affordable, with a median price just over $200,000.
Menomonee Falls offers more than a dozen lush parks, and a paved, 14-mile trail winds through town. For cultural outposts, residents usually make the 30-minute drive to Milwaukee for a Brewers baseball game or a day at the Milwaukee Art Museum.—Veronica Crews
