Best for you if...You value convenience above all else. For the convenience award, Money looked at the availability of customer service, weeding out banks that did not offer instant messaging with representatives, 24/7 service by phone and and at least 50 branch hours a week. We heavily weighted branch presence.

THE WINNER: Citizens

Branches: 1,228 in 11 states

Why it’s a winner: Because Citizens makes it easy to find help. The bank has representatives available by phone at all times and by instant messaging 55 hours a week. Citizens has a robust physical presence, with more than 1,200 locations and almost 3,200 ATMs. Branches are open up to 56 hours a week including weekend hours—putting Citizens in the upper tier on that benchmark. Additionally, Citizens scored well with its customers in the most recent American ­Banker/Reputation survey.

Caveats: This bank isn’t great for interest seekers—the highest-paying savings account offers only 0.03% on $10,000.
