Blogger Lauren Greutman is well aware of the spendthrift lifestyle.

Greutman says she’d get a high off of spending money on things she really didn’t need. “I loved appearing like I had the money to buy new things.”

Greutman eventually realized that she should refocus her energy on ways to save rather than spend. Part of her strategy was to think about the hourly costs of spending money.

“I don’t want to say I replaced the high of shopping,” says Greutman. “But I really just diverted the love of spending money…now it’s a love of saving money.”
