For a young Roblox player, finding a link to “free Robux” might feel like hitting the jackpot. But scammers are using the promise of this virtual currency to lure kids into handing over their login details.

Roblox, a popular online game platform, is played daily by around 40 million kids around the world. Players can use the in-game currency Robux to buy avatar clothing, special animations and other content. While you can earn Robux by selling virtual items or experiences you create, you can also purchase it. That means Robux can represent real money a parent spent on their child’s account.

The scam often shows up as a link advertising free Robux alongside a short deadline, which adds pressure for players to click on it before their chance at the supposed giveaway disappears. That link leads to a fake Roblox login page where they are asked to enter their username and password.

The most sinister part of this scam comes right after: The fake page redirects your kid to the legitimate Roblox site, allowing them to keep playing without realizing that they have surrendered access to their account.

Once inside, scammers can drain the Robux balance or steal valuable items, potentially wiping out purchases you paid for. And getting your kid’s account back doesn’t necessarily mean getting those purchases back: Roblox says it doesn’t guarantee recovery of stolen currency or items.

Roblox ranked second among brands impersonated in phishing attempts blocked by NordVPN during the first half of 2026. The platform accounted for roughly 12% of those attempts, according to the cybersecurity company’s [2026 Consumer Cybersecurity Report](https://nordvpn.com/blog/nordvpn-consumer-cybersecurity-report-2026/).

While Roblox has introduced ways to make the platform safer for children, like age-based accounts, tighter chat restrictions and facial age checks, these scams often start elsewhere. For example, you might find one of these malicious links on a YouTube or TikTok comment, in a Twitch stream chat or on a Discord message.

NordVPN researchers [told the Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/games/2026/sep/27/mum-where-did-my-robux-go-the-roblox-scam-targeting-children) they found almost 200 web addresses selling ready-made Roblox phishing pages over just seven days.

## How to protect your kid's Roblox account from scammers

One way to limit your kid's exposure to Roblox scams is to insist they always open the game through its official app or website, rather than a link in a comment or message. Fake pages can closely resemble the real thing, and having “Roblox” somewhere in the web address doesn’t make a site legitimate.

You should also talk to your kids about the scam itself. Roblox warns that free Robux generators aren't real. A supposed giveaway that expires in a few hours is another reason to pause: Scammers use deadlines to push children — or even adults — into clicking before they ask questions.

Make sure your kid's account has a strong, unique password and enable two-step verification, but explain that verification and backup codes need the same protection as passwords. These fake pages may request authentication codes as well, undermining the extra security if they enter them.

Consider reviewing parental controls together and showing children how to block and report suspicious users. Regular conversations can help them recognize questionable offers — including those found outside Roblox.

Lastly, if your child falls for this scam, reset their password and contact Roblox promptly: The company requires requests for help with compromised accounts within 30 days.
