With warmer weather comes another Free Cone Day.
Häagen-Dazs will give out free ice cream cones on Tuesday afternoon at participating stores around the United States.
The deal — good for one free “kiddie scoop” of ice cream or sorbet in a sugar cone, cake cone or cup — is available May 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. You can see if your local Häagen-Dazs is participating in the event by looking at the company’s store locator here.
The company is also using Free Cone Day to promote awareness about the declining population of honeybees. It’s asking participants to plant native wildflowers and plants in their areas, in an effort to protect bees. (It isn’t providing any seeds to customers, but encourages ice cream lovers to look up native plants to their region here.)
Häagen-Dazs has said bees play a vital role for one third of its flavors, including Rocky Road, Strawberry and Toasted Coconut Caramel. The ice cream maker — which publishes its bee-dependent flavors on its website — is also releasing a virtual reality film in June that puts viewers in the place of a honeybee, “allowing them to understand what’s causing their alarming decline,” the company said in a statement.
