Happy Labor Day 2019!

Labor Day is a federal holiday, and most offices and non-essential government services are closed for the holiday on Monday, September 2. Post offices are closed, and the stock market is closed on Labor Day too.

On the other hand, Labor Day is a huge day for shopping — Labor Day sales are everywhere — and dining out, so virtually all stores and restaurants are very much open today. (One notable exception is Costco, which is closed on Labor Day.)

What about banks on Labor Day? Are they open or closed? Here's what you need to know.

Are banks open on Labor Day?

For the most part, banks follow the lead set by Federal Reserve System, and its banks — like the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago — are closed on Monday, September 2, for Labor Day 2019.

So: Sorry, banks are closed on Labor Day.

We couldn't find any banks offering business hours today. Even banks such as TD Bank, which keep most branches open on Sundays and certain widely-celebrated holidays like Columbus Day and Veterans Day, are closed on Labor Day.

If you need to do some banking on Labor Day, hopefully an ATM or electronic banking services will do the trick. Or maybe it can wait until tomorrow, when banks will be open like usual nationwide.
