But there's no mistaking that many people do look forward to Labor Day mostly for Labor Day sales — and end-of-summer deals. While summertime items like swimsuits and barbecue grills have traditionally been marked down once the summer comes to an end, today's Labor Day sales mean deals on everything from TVs to Instant Pots to washing machines. According to Sara Skirboll, shopping and trends expert at coupon site [RetailMeNot](http://retailmenot.com), Labor Day is a good time to get deals on big-ticket items like appliances and mattresses. "People tend to take their time before they make a big investment and a long weekend gives them the free time to look, think about and then buy,” she says. Skirboll also says seasonal outdoor goods and backyard furniture tend to get marked down around Labor Day. "Stores need to make room for all their winter inventory like space heaters and snow blowers, which means summer staples like [grills](https://money.com/shopping/) will be on sale,” she says.
