Flower Mound, Texas

Family friendly and close to the hubbub of Dallas-Fort Worth, Flower Mound is a growing city that retains its small-town vibe. Located on the shores of Grapevine Lake, Flower Mound offers its residents water-skiing, fishing, camping, biking, and other outdoor recreation.

If weather turns inclement, there’s plenty to do indoors as well, including enjoying a glass of wine while taking an art class at Bottle and Bottega; heading to a shooting gallery for target practice; or taking the kids to the local branch of the Play Street Museum.

Flower Mound is doing its part to attract newcomers; it has ultra-high school graduation rates, and modest home prices. Approved a decade ago, Riverwalk at Flower Mound is a 158-acre pedestrian-friendly multi-use development that has opened in stages. A hospital, medical offices, and a hotel are already in place; a chapel is expected to be operational early next year. Down the line Riverwalk will also house restaurants, shops and an amphitheater. — Sara Ivry
