The Powerball jackpot ballooned to $440 million after Saturday’s drawing came and went without a winner.
Had a single winning ticket been drawn on Saturday, the prize would have been $384 million. The new jackpot is the ninth-largest in the game’s history, according to the Powerball website. The next drawing is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 10:59 p.m. ET.
Powerball players aren’t the only gamblers who could win big this season. The Mega Millions jackpot swelled to $343 million after an unsuccessful drawing on Friday. The next drawing will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 11 p.m. ET.
While the odds of hitting either the Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot are long — about one in 292 million and one in 302.5 million, respectively — winning both pots would be next to impossible. CNN estimated the odds at one in 88 quadrillion.
