Over the course of our careers, some of us step out of the work force. Sometimes it's to go back to school, sometimes it's because we stayed home to raise our kids. Whatever the reason, when it's time to jump back into your career, Kerry Hannon says that you need to be prepared to explain the gap in your resume. To avoid that awkward conversation with a potential employer, make sure that you keep your skill set current by volunteering or taking classes in your field. The important thing is to keep your mind active and your skills relevant to the career path you want to pursue.
