Sears Holdings, which owns Kmart and its flagship Sears stores and began 2018 by announcing a big round of [store closures](https://blog.searsholdings.com/eddie-lampert/enhancing-our-liquidity-and-accelerating-our-return-to-profitability/), recently circulated a new list of [Kmart and Sears stores set to close](https://searsholdings.com/docs/122818_store_closing_list.pdf) by March 2019. A full, state-by-state list of 80 new Sears store closings is below. Texas and Florida are the states hardest hit by Sears store closures, with seven locations shutting down in each. Shoppers can look forward to liquidation sales at these 80 Sears and Kmart locations starting this week or by mid-January at the latest. Are the deals at Sears liquidation sales good? In general, liquidation prices begin with fairly mediocre discounts — say, 50% off shoes and clothes, and maybe 10% off more desirable Sears Craftsman tools and power equipment — and the deals get better and better as the store comes closer to going out of business. The Sears store closures at the beginning of 2018 and 2019 are part of a much bigger trend for the troubled iconic department store chain. The company announced a few other rounds of Kmart and Sears store closures in 2018, and also officially filed for bankruptcy in October. What with the flurry of closure announcements, it's been hard to keep track of how many Sears stores are still open. According to [one count](https://www.businessinsider.com/sears-bankruptcy-filing-2018-10), there were about 700 Sears and Kmart stores still open in the U.S. by the end of 2018, down from roughly 2,000 five years ago. Once the latest round of Sears store closings is complete in March, the total number of Kmart and Sears stores open in the U.S. will be closer to 600.
