Time is running out, too, if you live in one of the 41 states that charge individual [taxes](https://money.com/taxes/) on wages and salary income. Although the vast majority of states mirror the [IRS deadline](https://money.com/when-are-taxes-due/) of April 15, there are some exceptions. Here are the state tax deadlines you need to know in 2026. ## Alabama Alabama state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15; you can get an automatic six-month [extension](https://www.revenue.alabama.gov/faqs/can-i-apply-for-an-extension-to-file-my-return/) until Oct. 15 for the paperwork — not payment — only. ## Arizona Arizona state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15. ## Arkansas Arkansas state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15. ## California California state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15, though you can have an automatic extension through Oct. 15. Note this deadline is just for submitting your paperwork, though — any balance you owe is still due by April 15. ## Colorado Colorado state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15. You can get an automatic six-month [extension](https://tax.hawaii.gov/tax-year-information/) if you're owed a refund or you pay your estimated tax bill by April 20. ## Idaho Idaho state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15. You can get an automatic filing [extension](https://tax.idaho.gov/pressrelease/more-guidance-on-conformity-deductions-and-filing-2025-idaho-income-taxes/) if you pay 80% of your estimated 2025 tax bill or 100% of your 2024 tax bill by the April 15 deadline. ## Illinois Illinois state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15. You can get an automatic six-month extension if you pay taxes owed on time. ## Indiana Indiana state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15. ## Iowa Iowa state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 30. The state will give you an automatic extension until Oct. 31 if you pay at least 90% of your total tax liability by the April 30 due date. ## Kansas Kansas state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15. ## Kentucky Kentucky state income taxes for 2025 must be filed by April 15.
