[Clark Howard](http://www.clark.com), a consumer advocate and radio talk show host, knows how to shop for the best deals when you travel. First, don't lock yourself into a destination. Be open to places you can go to relax. This is how you'll get the best deals on flights and hotels.

Next, check out [Scott's Cheap Flights](https://scottscheapflights.com), [Kayak](https://www.kayak.com), Google and Southwest Airlines for which plane tickets are cheap and available. These sites, Howard says, are the best for different reasons. Scott's Cheap Flights offers decent international destinations. Kayak allows you to input multiple locations for take-off. Google lists domestic flights that will get you anywhere in the United States for cheap. And Southwest always has deals. You'll just never see them on any outside deal site. You have to go to the source for Southwest flights.
