Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will see two payments hit their bank accounts in July thanks to a quirk in the calendar. The second payment is actually August’s benefit, which is arriving a day early.

While about 70 million Americans receive Social Security retirement benefits and roughly 8 million collect disability insurance, roughly 7 million receive SSI. The federal program provides monthly benefits to folks with limited income and resources who are blind, disabled or age 65 and older.

When will SSI checks arrive in July?

If you collect SSI benefits, you likely know that payments typically go out on the first of the month. On Wednesday (July 1), recipients should receive their July payment.

But August payments will go out on July 31 because Aug. 1 is a Saturday, according to the Social Security Administration’s 2026 payment schedule.

This change isn’t that unusual. The SSA shifts benefit payment dates whenever they falls on a weekend or federal holiday, and it happens frequently. For example, January’s SSI payment hit accounts on Dec. 31, 2025, because of New Year’s Day.

In 2026, SSI recipients can expect two checks to land in the same month in July, October and December.

Social Security schedule for July 2026

If you receive both SSI and Social Security benefits, the latter will still follow its usual schedule in August. That timing is based on your birthdate for most beneficiaries.

However, there are exceptions for folks who started receiving Social Security before May 1997. In July, that payment will arrive on Thursday — which is actually a day earlier than usual because of the federal observance of Independence Day on Friday.
