Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Sioux Falls is about as Midwest as you can get — in all the best ways. With stunning geography, a vibrant culture, and a safe and family-friendly environment, this South Dakota city consistently ranks as one of the fastest growing cities in the nation with booming businesses and projected job growth of 5% by 2023.

Located on the easternmost side of the state and bordering Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota, Sioux Falls inevitably lives up to its name and has stunning waterfalls. Check out Falls Park, which is within walking distance from downtown. With 83 parks within the city limits there's no shortage of ways to enjoy the outdoors, or places to train for either the half or full marathon that takes place every September. The best way to explore the picturesque waterfront views is on a 28-mile paved bike trail along the River Greenway.

Another bonus? The literary scene is thriving, with multiple poetry and literature groups through the Sioux Falls Art Council, and various slam poetry events. — Chloe Wilt
