Applicants are drawn to this upstate New York school for its Christian environment and liberal-arts education.
Roberts Wesleyan is known for strong programs in teacher education and nursing, as well as a fairly strict disciplinary code. Almost everyone lives on campus in single-sex dorms, where drug and alcohol bans are strictly enforced. Old and New Testament studies are part of the core curriculum, and students are required to earn 20 “spiritual life credits” per semester, which are often fulfilled through weekly attendance at chapel or a spiritual life event.
To help students graduate on time, the school now offers a “four-year promise” through which it will cover the costs for additional courses needed to earn a degree (as long as the student meets certain requirements like meeting with an academic advisor once per semester). About 78% of students graduate within six years, which Money finds is 14% higher than expected based on the makeup of the student body. Roberts Wesleyan also takes affordability seriously. Every freshman receives a grant from the college, with the average package for the 2025-2026 school year topping $23,000.
