Coweta, Oklahoma

An agricultural town until the 1960s, the city of Coweta is now a residential community located just 25 miles southeast of downtown Tulsa. Many workers commute to the big city, or to nearby Muskogee or Broken Arrow, but come home to Coweta to enjoy the more relaxed lifestyle in the Oklahoma countryside.

With solid incomes and modest home prices, Coweta is one of the more affordable spots on this year's list. Shoppers can choose from a mix of local and national retailers — including a Walmart supercenter, also one of the area’s largest employers — as well as a variety of dining options; favorite spots include Dixie’s Cafe, Roy’s Fried Chicken, and The Fish Shack.
