Meridian, Idaho
Meridian is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation — and for good reason. Ada County's job growth has increased by over 32% in the last decade and the unemployment rate is a low 2.5%. People seem to settle down here: 72% of Meridian residents are homeowners with the median home price of $287,662 sitting slightly above the national average.
Walmart opened a new store in the city in 2017, and is one of the city’s largest employers. And the West Ada School District in Meridian employs over 3,100 people as of 2018. The city boasts an 84.2% graduation rate and above-average national reading and math scores.
But Meridian has more to offer than jobs and good schools. Families can spend the city's approximately 210 days of sunshine at Roaring Springs Water Park — a day pass is $33 — or drive to the 545-acre Eagle Island State Park that borders the Boise River. For only $5 per vehicle you can spend the day swimming, fishing, and enjoying the park's picnic area and playground.
For rainy days, there are indoor activities like bumper cars, laser tag at the Wahooz Family Fun Zone or a visit to the Children’s Museum of Idaho. Those looking for a more active bar and nightlife scene are only a quick 20-minute drive away from Boise. — Olivia Raimonde
