Mount Juliet, Tennessee
With a moniker like “The City Between the Lakes,” this town’s abundant outdoor amenities are certainly no surprise. Sandwiched between the region’s Old Hickory and Percy Priest lakes, Mount Juliet provides countless venues for fishing, swimming, boating, kayaking and camping. There’s also golfing (and putt-putt), and you can even go explore on horseback thanks to Juro Stables.
A mere 20-mile drive to Nashville, jobs are plentiful here, too. Employment in the city has risen 12% since 2015, and Amazon just announced a new distribution center in the city, too. It’s projected to add another 1,000 jobs to the region come 2021.
Once the weekend rolls around, residents can hit up the town’s Encore Theater Company, which offers a full slate of dramatic performances. For a more Nashville-esque experience, Bradley’s Barn — the recording studio where countless country greats worked, including Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline — is a can’t-miss. — Aly J.
