Amazon Prime members have special reason to shop at Whole Foods this week: When you spend $10 or more at Whole Foods from July 11 to 17, you'll get a free $10 credit that can be used at Amazon during the Amazon Prime Day sales event coming up.

Amazon Prime Day 2018 is taking place over the course of 36 hours, starting at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 16, and stretching throughout Tuesday, July 17. Amazon says this year's edition of Prime Day, an annual blockbuster online sales event created in 2015 as a summertime version of Black Friday, will be bigger than ever, with more than one million deals worldwide.

This year, for the first time, Amazon is fully incorporating Whole Foods Market stores into its Prime Day plans.

Amazon bought Whole Foods in 2017 for $13.7 billion, and has steadily been synergizing the brands. Soon after the acquisition was complete, Amazon instituted cheaper prices on some groceries at Whole Foods, to replicate the value proposition that's at the core of Amazon's sales pitch. Members of Amazon Prime, the $119-per-year subscription program that includes free two-day shipping on most Amazon purchases, now get 10% off Whole Foods' items that are already on sale, plus free two-hour grocery delivery in select areas.

Now, shoppers are being enticed to make some purchases at both Whole Foods and Amazon.com over the next few days.

To get the special $10 credit for use on Amazon Prime Day 2018, you must be signed up as an Amazon Prime member. The normal price of Amazon Prime is now $12.99 per month, or $119 per year, up from $10.99 and $99, respectively, not long ago. Free trials of Amazon Prime are available for new subscribers.

Amazon says that all Prime members who spend at least $10 in one visit to a Whole Foods store between July 11 and 17 will get a $10 credit to spend on Amazon Prime Day 2018. The money will automatically be added to your Amazon account by scanning your Whole Foods or Amazon app at the Whole Foods register.

What's more, anyone holding an Amazon Prime Rewards credit card can get an extra discount at Whole Foods soon. From July 14 to 17, when you shop at Whole Foods and pay with an Amazon Prime Rewards card, you'll get 10% off your entire bill of $400 or less.
