Bank here if...You're a smartphone-aholic. In assessing apps, we narrowed the list to those that allow you to find ATMs, view balance and account activity, edit transactions, receive alerts, deposit checks, and transfer funds to others without fees. We road-tested the finalists.

THE WINNER: Wells Fargo

Branches: 6,200 in 39 states plus D.C.

Why it’s a winner: Because it had all the features we were seeking, in a user-friendly interface. Also, we liked that the app received accolades from market research firm Javelin and performance analytics firm Keynote.

Caveats: Wells Fargo’s checkings and savings options didn’t rate. The most basic checking has a $10 fee and a $1,500 minimum, while the best rate on savings is 0.10% on $100,000.
