Forget luck, Ally Bank wants to give you $1,000 for picking up a penny.

But you have to pick up the right penny. The online bank has hidden 100 "lucky pennies" in 10 cities across the country. Whoever finds these pennies will get a much sweeter payout than a single cent.

If you live in Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Austin, Chicago, Charlotte, Detroit, Miami, New York and Washington, D.C., you may want to start picking up any penny you can find.

The coins will be copper-colored like traditional pennies, but feature a different image bearing the company's name. According to the company's twitter account, all the "pennies" are located in public, outdoor spaces and hidden in "plain sight" on the ground, so no fountain-diving necessary.

According to Ally, 10 billion pennies are minted each year, but almost half go out of circulation. They're hoping this stunt will remind people that every cent is worth saving, including those pennies we all so cavalierly leave on tabletops, sidewalks and in jean pockets.
