Your Old Computer Might Be Worth Some Money

If you bought a computer with a DVD drive between April 1, 2003 and December 31, 2008, you could be eligible for a $10 refund.

That's thanks to a class action lawsuit settled in December by Sony, NEC, Panasonic and Hitachi-LG, companies that were accused of collusion to keep prices for optical drives high, CNET reports. The settlement covers consumers who purchased a computer with a DVD drive (or a standalone DVD drive to connect to a computer) while residing in Arizona, California, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, or Wisconsin.

Consumers must file their claims online or by mail by July 1, 2017. The settlement administrator may request proof of purchase.
