Here's How You Can Pay for Parking Tickets by Donating Food to Charity

There's probably only one place on Earth where getting a ticket and not getting a ticket is a win-win situation: Lexington, Kentucky.

The second-largest city in Kentucky just adopted a temporary policy allowing parking violators to make good on their tickets by donating food.

If you have a ticket for $15, instead of paying by cash or check you cover your tab by donating 10 cans of food to a local food bank.

According to Fast Company, last year's edition of this program collected around 6,000 cans of food, and more is expected this year. This is a pretty big deal, considering tickets are a nice addition to a city's income and ticket issuance is on on the decline in some areas.

The good PR caused by this campaign is being copied by a police department outside of Chicago too.

Get your parking ticket food donations in soon though—when the holidays are through, offenders are going to have to pay in cash again.
