Salman Khan, creator of [Khan Academy](https://www.khanacademy.org), admits to skipping classes in college. Khan felt that it wasn't worth his time if the material was boring. Moreover, he found that he preferred classes that were more hands-on—those in which the professor conducted a discussion rather than gave a lecture.

This desire to engage is one of the driving ideas behind Khan Academy, he says. Khan strives to teach students through hands-on learning and an open exchange of ideas. The Academy does provide lectures, but students can stream them at their own discretion.
