Early [reports](http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/drivers-scramble-for-cash-on-i-270-after-crash/2014/10/31/a031dbdc-6101-11e4-827b-2d813561bdfd_story.html) claimed the broken lock resulted from a collision with a dump truck. Unsurprisingly, [so many](http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/money-is-flying-around-interstate-270-north-near-urbana-after-armored-truck-crash/2014/10/31/e461663e-60fb-11e4-91f7-5d89b5e8c251_story.html?wpisrc=al_commuter) drivers stopped to grab the cash that traffic on the northbound lane came to a virtual standstill, and by the time troopers got there, most of the bills were gone—leaving only a little more than $200 for police to collect. While authorities are still figuring out how much money was taken, at least $500 flew out, according to the Maryland State Police.
