American Girl Is Releasing Its First-Ever Boy Doll for $115

Popular doll company American Girl is releasing its first-ever boy doll in a move to further the line's diversity, showing that playtime has no gender.

A new collection of dolls will feature Logan Everett, a boy drummer, who plays in a band alongside girl singer-songwriter doll Tenney Grant in Nashville, Tenn, according to the Huffington Post. Both dolls will be available starting Thursday, Feb. 16 for $115.

American Girl spokesperson Julie Parks told Money that a boy doll character has been a "top request" from the company's fanbase for decades. She said there was a clear demand to include contemporary characters with "more experiences, more diversity, and more interests."

"These new characters, including two new historical characters, will help us give voice to a diverse range of personalities and speak to even more customers," Parks told Money in an email statement.

"Tenney’s story was the perfect opportunity for us to introduce a boy doll character," she added. "Logan, as Tenney’s bandmate and drummer, has a compelling storyline within the series and we believe many parents, girls and boys will be glad he joined the fold!"

American Girl will also release several other diverse characters in 2017. In April, a Korean-American character named Z Yang will arrive, and in the fall, Nanea, a World War II era character from Hawaii, will debut.
