Fernando has been actively involved in research and writing since 2017. He holds an M.A. in Translation from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus. In 2018, he defended his thesis Cocinando suave: Essays about salsa in Puerto Rico, a translation from Spanish into English of the book of the same name by César Colón Montijo, editor.
