What time do stores open on Black Friday?

The question is a little more complicated than you might imagine. That's because many stores—including Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Best Buy, J.C. Penney, Sears, Kohl's, and GameStop—open their doors and launch their "Black Friday" sales on Thanksgiving Day itself.

In some cases, retailer Black Friday hours also vary due to local laws that restrict certain businesses from opening on holidays like Thanksgiving.

Once they're open and their Black Friday deals are live on Thanksgiving, stores such as Walmart, J.C. Penney, and Toys R Us simply stay open overnight as Thursday officially turns into Black Friday. In other words, these stores are open for shoppers no matter if they're hunting for Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving Day, at 3 a.m. in the pre-dawn of Black Friday, all day long on Black Friday, or at any time in between.

However, some retailers remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, and others that open for Thanksgiving shopping hours shut down for a while before opening again for Black Friday deal shoppers.

Abercrombie & Fitch: Most stores open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.

Apple: Open for Black Friday hours starting at 8 a.m.

Babies R Us: Open at 8 a.m. on Black Friday.

Barnes and Noble: Open at 8 a.m. in most locations on Black Friday, and shoppers get a free tall hot coffee until 10 a.m.

Bass Pro Shops: Open at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.

Bealls: Open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.

Belk: Open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.

Bergdorf Goodman: Open at 8 a.m. on Black Friday.
