Here Are 7 Celebrities Who Wore H&M to the Met Gala

The Met Gala is often described as the Super Bowl of the fashion industry. Each year, a host of celebrities and fashion influencers come dressed in theme, wearing custom — and expensive — designer gowns and suits.

But on Monday at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, seven celebrities opted to wear looks designed by a more affordable retailer: H&M.

Following the theme "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art and the In-Between" for this year's Costume Institute exhibition, H&M designers created gowns and suits for rapper Nicki Minaj and model Ashley Graham, among others, that celebrated themes of deconstruction and asymmetry.

Each look was custom made and one of a kind, according to H&M, and drew on the company's past experience collaborating with Comme des Garçons in 2008.

This is not the first time the affordable retailer has made an appearance at fashion's biggest night. In past years, H&M designed gowns for Jennifer Hudson, Ciara and Amber Valletta.

It's unclear if any of these looks — or ensembles inspired by them — will make an appearance at H&M stores for customers to purchase. But, in the meantime, check out each H&M look below.

Ashley Graham

At the top model's first Met Gala, Graham wore an off-white corset dress designed by H&M with a long red silk skirt. Cherry red organza ruffles fell from her shoulder down the dress to the skirt.

Graham was unable to find a designer to complete a look for her for the event last year. "I have loved collaborating with [H&M] every step of the way," Graham told H&M Magazine.

Supermodel Jourdan Dunn wore a body-hugging, asymmetrical and deconstructed white shirt and navy pinstriped skirt.

"They make high fashion affordable," Dunn said of H&M in an interview with Pop Sugar.

Sasha Lane

Actress Sasha Lane wore a custom black two-piece gown that featured large silver polka dots on a sheer, net-like skirt.

"It makes me feel like a badass princess and is round and full, so I feel untouchable," Lane told Vogue of her look.
