Valentine’s Day Is the Perfect Time to Donate Your Ex’s Stuff to Charity

Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love and tenderness and all the many wonderful things that accompany romance—one of which, if we’re being honest, is the joy of meting out sweet, sweet revenge on an ex who has cruelly left you in the dust.

But revenge is a destructive emotion. So if you’re trying to get even this year, instead of throwing his belongings out the apartment window, or naming a cockroach after him, why not add a little goodness into the world in the same breath?

One Goodwill in Sarasota, Florida, wants to help you do just that with its “Donate Your Ex’s Stuff” campaign.

“When someone donates clothes, jewelry, DVDs and/or sporting goods to Goodwill, they aren’t just cleansing the hurt of a failed relationship – these unwanted will be sold in Goodwill’s retail stores and support our programs to help those with barriers to employment to receive training and mentorship, and find jobs,” said Goodwill Manasota Foundation vice president Veronica Brandon Miller. “Certainly we’re having a little fun at the expense of Valentine’s Day, but the benefits derived from those seeking the pride of earning a paycheck, and the self-worth that comes with self-sufficiency, are priceless.”
