Google Android data settlement

As many as 100 million Android customers are eligible for small payments after a settlement in Joseph Taylor, et al. v. Google. The lawsuit claimed that Google misused users' cellular data for unwanted background transfers. Filed in November 2020, the complaint alleged the tech giant had a "dirty little secret:" that even when Google apps were closed, the Android mobile system quietly transferred information to Google using customers' cell data.

Google agreed to a $135 million settlement while denying all the claims, and a final approval hearing is scheduled for June 23. The settlement website, FederalCellularClassAction.com, states that the class size is all Android mobile users after Nov. 12, 2017 except for those involved in a separate Google lawsuit.

Customers were notified directly with more information about the agreement. In this settlement, users are not required to submit claims. To choose a payment method, the notice ID and confirmation code are required.

LastPass breach settlement

The password manager LastPass agreed to a nearly $25 million settlement, and a large number of U.S. customers are now eligible to submit claims. After a 2022 data breach, multiple lawsuits were filed and eventually consolidated into this case, which the company settled.

The settlement covers all accounts affected by the incident, according to the LastPass Data Security Incident Litigation website. Customers who used LastPass before November 2022 may be eligible. The default payment amount is $25 from an $8.2 million fund, though some claimants may qualify to recoup much more.

Victims of identity theft as a result of the LastPass breach can claim up to $10,000. Others who can document cryptocurrency losses allegedly related to the data breach can access payouts from an additional pot of $16.25 million.

Notifications about the settlement reportedly were sent out beginning in late March. Eligible users have until July 2 to submit claims.

Tinder settlement

The matchmaking app recently settled a class-action lawsuit for $60.5 million, while denying that it improperly charged older customers more than younger customers for premium memberships.

The lawsuit only applies to certain customers in California who purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold after March 2, 2015, according to the settlement website.

The deadline to make a payment selection is Aug. 18, 2026.

Tom's toothpaste settlement

Did you purchase a tube of Tom's of Maine natural-branded toothpaste between Nov. 21, 2020, and March 6 of this year? If so, you could be eligible for money back from the company under a lawsuit that alleged "deceptive and misleading business practices," according to the settlement website. In 2024, the FDA issued a warning letter to Tom's after multiple types of bacteria were detected at a plant and in finished toothpaste, leading to false advertising accusations.

More information about the $2.9 million Tom's toothpaste settlement can be found at toothpastesettlement.com.

State Farm settlement

Lawsuits against State Farm in a couple of states — New Mexico and Arkansas — have recently been settled under multi-million dollar agreements.

Customers in New Mexico can submit claims for part of a $20.9 million class-action settlement if they had "U coverage" for auto insurance, which refers to protection for accidents with uninsured and underinsured motorists. The settlement website is schwartzuimclasssettlement.com.

State Farm also agreed to a car insurance settlement in Arkansas that has yet to be approved. Participation in this $15.6 million settlement will require total vehicle loss from Arkansas customers, meaning the settlement class will likely be rather small.
