These Are the Best Green Monday Shopping Deals

It doesn't really matter if you've never heard of Green Monday. The day—"celebrated" (and we're using this term loosely) on the second Monday of December—is one in an endless string of fake manufactured holidays meant to get consumers excited about something or another.

What should matter to you is that Green Monday has grown into a huge day for e-commerce, thanks to the confluence of great e-retailer discounts and the clock ticking on shipping deadlines for orders to arrive by December 24. Some expect that Green Monday will be the third biggest day of the season in terms of online sales, falling behind only Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And the reason sales will be enormous is because of deals like the following:

6pm.com: Everything at this discount footwear-focused site is always on sale, so the extra 15% off sitewide on Green Monday is quite a deal. Use code GREENMON5 at checkout.

Amazon: Green Monday is Day 9 of Amazon's "12 Days of Deals" promotion, in which there's a different sale theme each day. The theme on Monday is "Tech Enthusiast," and the sales include $20 to $50 off Fire tablets and a Blu-ray edition of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy for $28 (77% off). Look for a free vinyl record giveaway coming next, on Tuesday of this week.

Best Buy: While the electronics retailer hasn't launched many extra-special deals just for Green Monday, it has some terrific ongoing promotions, including rarely seen $100 to $125 discounts on Apple iPads.

Eddie Bauer: Knock 40% off your entire purchase with the code GREEN.

Gap: Like last week, Gap and sister retailer Old Navy are offering 40% off everything today. As a special bonus, both stores include free three-day shipping with a $50 purchase. Use code COZY at Gap or SHIP4FREE at Old Navy.

J.C. Penney: Get an extra 30% off orders of $100 or more, or 25% off purchases under $100, plus free shipping with orders of at least $25 by using the code GREENDAY. The discounts apply to items already marked down with sale and clearance prices, so in some cases this means the deals amount to more than 80% off original prices.

Lands' End: On Monday, online shoppers get 50% off all outerwear and 40% off everything else, with code THROW (pin: 3014) at checkout.

Levi's: Extra 50% off items already on sale and up to 40% off most other items, plus free ground shipping for orders of $25 or more.

Macy's: Extra 20% off nearly all merchandise, plus free shipping and free returns with a $25 purchase on Green Monday. What's more, for every $50 you spend at Macy's, you'll get a $10 Macy's Money credit valid for purchases from December 18 to 23.

Target: The deals include PlayStation 4 (with Star Wars Battlefront Bundle) or Xbox One (Gears of War bundle) game consoles for $300—a price that's matched by Amazon and Walmart, among others—plus buy one, get one 50% off kids clothes (including Star Wars apparel), and 30% off plus an extra 15% off adult clothing with use of the code GREEN.

Tommy Hilfiger: 40% off everything with the code GREENMONDAY, plus an extra 20% off on purchases of $150 or more.

Toys R Us: Instead of confusing shoppers with any business about the esoteric "Green Monday," Toys R Us simply states that "Cyber Monday Is Back" in a one-day sale on December 14. The deals include 50% off Lite Bright games, $5 off every $25 spent on Hasbro board games, 30% off select drones and remote control helicopters, and up to 75% off Disney Pixar interactive stuffed animals.

Walmart: At the start of the 2015 winter shopping season, Walmart promised a simpler, easier, more worry-free experience for consumers, in which sales and discounts would last for weeks rather than appear (and then disappear) in a matter of hours. So it's kind of annoying that it is promoting how on Green Monday the prices on certain items—including an ESPN air hockey table and Paw Patrol stuffed animal—have online prices that are cheaper than Black Friday today. In any event, the prices are cheaper than Black Friday!
