AFC Home Warranty overview
America’s First Choice Home Warranty (AFC Home Warranty) offers home warranty plans that cover appliances and systems in case of breakdown, mechanical failure or normal wear and tear.
The company offers four levels of coverage, add-ons and a workmanship guarantee that lasts for as long as your plan is active with AFC — up to three years in some cases. You can also choose the service technician of your choice when it’s time to ask for help.
- Option to choose your own licensed technician to do repairs
- Labor and repairs are guaranteed for the life of your contract
- Additional perks and benefits, including discounts with partnered companies
- Not available in Hawaii, Washington or California
- Appliances and systems with pre-existing issues are not covered
- Relatively low coverage caps for most systems
AFC Home Warranty plans
AFC Home Warranty offers four different home warranty plans, including a system-only plan, a lowered-tiered plan that covers nine major home appliances and two plans that cover a combination of both systems and appliances. These plan options are:
- Silver Plan
- Gold Plan
- Platinum Plan
- Diamond Plan
Home warranty companies typically charge a service call fee, which is the deductible you pay when you request a service. AFC Home Warranty allows you to choose a service call fee amount of $75, $100 or $125. The amount you choose will affect the overall price of your plan — usually, a higher deductible means a lower premium, whereas a lower deductible means a higher premium.
AFC offers one of the longest workmanship guarantees in the industry. Home warranty providers typically offer a 30- or 60-day guarantee, but AFC guarantees repairs, parts and labor for the lifetime of your contract, which can be up to three years if enrolled in a 3-year plan.
AFC is also among the few companies that let you choose your own contractors with previous authorization as long they are licensed, bonded and insured. If you don’t have a qualified contractor, the company will dispatch one from its pool of service providers within 48 hours of your request.

AFC Home Warranty comparisons
AFC Home Warranty vs. American Home Shield
American Home Shield (AHS) is one of the largest home warranty providers in the country, and stands out for its high-coverage limits for HVAC systems.
Although American Home Shield doesn’t offer a system-only plan like AFC Home Warranty, it features three comprehensive plans that cover a combination of appliances and systems starting at relatively lower prices than AFC.
The major difference between these two home warranty providers is their coverage payout limits. Compared to American Home Shield, AFC’s coverage limits for systems are much lower. For instance, American Home Shield pays up to $5,000 for HVAC systems and ductwork and up to $2,000 and $4,000 for appliances (depending on your plan), while AFC pays a maximum of between $150 and $500 for most systems and $3,000 for appliances.

AFC Home Warranty vs. Select Home Warranty
Select Home Warranty is another major home warranty company that stands out for including roof leak coverage in all its plans and featuring plan discounts throughout the year.
Select Home Warranty offers three tiered plans with prices ranging from around $42 to $48 and a $75 service call fee. Select’s most basic plans — Bronze Care and Gold Care — respectively cover appliances and systems only, whereas its premium plan, the Platinum Care, covers both.
Select and AFC have similar coverage limits for systems such as plumbing and electrical, with a maximum payout of $500. However, Select falls short when it comes to appliances, covering only up to $500 compared to AFC’s $3,000 maximum, but it makes up for it with a coverage of up to $3,000 for HVAC equipment.
