Dominican University of California is a small, private college located just 12 miles north of San Francisco in Marin County. Despite its small size — the school has fewer than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students — it offers over 60 majors, minors and concentrations.
Dominican does have a high sticker price, but it offers substantial financial aid. According to the school, nearly 100% of incoming first-year undergraduate students receive scholarships or grants, averaging nearly $25,000 in aid.
The campus is 60 acres, and it's dotted with historic buildings and gardens. Only a small number (about 300) of students live on campus, but housing options range from traditional dorms to townhouses.
Each year, Dominican seniors present a painted shield to the incoming freshman class to help guide them during their time at the school. The painted designs are eventually carved into wooden shields, which are presented to the class at their commencement.
