La Salle University is a private Roman Catholic university in Philadelphia founded in 1863. The university offers more than 30 majors in three schools: Arts and Sciences, Business, and Nursing and Health Sciences. La Salle has about 5,000 students total, nearly 4,000 of which are undergraduates, but who all share in the university's core values, which include teaching and learning, spirit of faith and zeal, service, and association. Students can expect small classes taught by faculty -- La Salle does not use teaching assistants for this purpose -- in some interesting topics. Courses include mammalian physiology, criminology, data mining, oceanography, and more. La Salle has a host of organizations, including clubs focused on nutrition, accounting, tutoring, social work, and broadcasting, as well as a robust athletics program. La Salle participates in 25 Division I sports, and students love to support the Explorers: The teams even have a pep band. Off campus, students can head to Center City Philadelphia to eat cheesesteaks, check out Eagles games, and visit art museums.
