With just around 1,000 students on campus, the Catholic women’s college offers students a close-knit community and classes with a 9:1 student-to-faculty ratio. The school offers more than 40 majors, including art therapy, criminal justice and cybersecurity. There are several pre-professional programs, too, including for students who want to become pharmacists, dieticians and occupational therapists.
Mount Mary says that all of its undergraduates — 70% of whom identify as students of color — receive a scholarship, grant or reduced tuition. The school also scores in the top 10% of all the schools Money ranked for its socioeconomic mobility.
When not studying, students can join the 30-plus clubs on campus. Once a year, art, design, and fashion students have the opportunity to showcase their work at the CREO show, a widely attended event sponsored by Mount Mary University's School of Arts & Design. The college also houses a highly regarded historic costume collection, which holds 10,000 objects dating back to 1750. Many of the college’s notable alumni reflect that strength in art and design, with names such as Eliza Audley, who designs women’s tennis clothing, and clothing designer Donna Ricca.
Downtown Milwaukee is a short bus ride away, and students can easily head there on the weekends to enjoy performing arts, lakeside festivals, galleries and more. Chicago, meanwhile, is about an hour's drive from campus.
