SUNY College at Plattsburgh

SUNY Plattsburgh is one of the few colleges in the country that offer an expeditionary studies program. SUNY’s program focuses on preparing its students for careers as outdoor guides, rangers, or ecotourism professionals. It’s a logical setting; the Adirondacks are west, the Green Mountains of Vermont are east, and the town of Plattsburgh sits on the shores of Lake Champlain, just 25 miles from the Canadian border. But outdoor adventures aren't the only draw. The university offers more than 60 degree programs in schools of arts and sciences; business and economics; and education, health and human services. Business, communications, and psychology are popular programs. The university’s Center for Neurobehavioral Health provides undergrads and grad students with opportunities for learning and research in areas such as Alzheimer’s disease, autism, and traumatic brain injury. Plattsburgh offers one of the most comprehensive undergrad Canadian studies programs in the U.S. And the university is particularly proud of its Museum Without Walls program; the Plattsburgh State Art Museum’s 10,000-plus works are displayed not only inside the museum but also in exhibition areas throughout the grounds. Plattsburgh itself, a town of 20,000 people, has a small town feel. But for students looking for bright lights, Montreal is just a 65-mile drive away.
